History (continued)
More representative of our style, however, was to be awarded 1st place in the 1997 Sydney ANZAC Day march out of 18 pipe bands, which included higher graded bands. Judging is carried out by the RSL Clubs Association based on music quality, drill and deportment. We were judged to have had a good sound and appearance and played well with 25 members on parade. Prior to that we tended to be ranked between 2nd and 12th. Other significant rankings were 2nd in 1994, 5th in 1999 and 3rd in 2001.

Highland Gatherings of a display type, however, are more popular with both members and audiences and the band performs at several: The Australia Day Celtic Festival, now held at Bradfield Park in North Sydney,  is one of several the band attends each year.  Brigadoon at Bundanoon in April, Aberdeen Highland Games in July, Toukley in late August as well as Surf Carnivals and other fairs and fetes make up the band's busy schedule.

The band currently has 27 playing members in uniform. New members are always welcome, particularly experienced pipers or drummers who have been out of bands for some time and would enjoy playing again. The band does give tuition to those willing to learn to play pipes or drums. Uniforms and drums are provided and the band currently has a few sets of pipes available for loan.

Ron Clement OAM has been Pipe Major for over 50 years and remains Piper to the Clan MacLeod Society. Drum Major is Tim McGregor and Drum Sergeant Steven Patterson.    <<<previous>>>
