History (continued)

History virtually repeated itself when the band played at functions for the current Chief, John MacLeod of MacLeod‘s visit to Sydney in 1991. A mini group played for the Clan Parliament at Dunvegan Castle on Skye in 1998 and in Bendigo in 1999, teaming with the Bendigo Clan MacLeod Pipe Band .

Based on the lower North Shore, the band practises for 2 hours per week at the Music Shell in St Leonards Park, thanks to the generosity of North Sydney Council.

The band competes once per year in grade 4 competition at the Combined Scottish Societies Gathering, mainly for the improvement that goes with contest preparation. Although the primary objective of some bands is competition, ours is more social, as contests can be very demanding, at the cost of precious time with family as well as individuals’ business commitments.

We have usually been ranked about midway in the Grade 4 contests. At Drummoyne in November 2002, however, the band moved up to 3rd place in the musical selection and 4th in the march-time segment out of 12 competing bands.
